Chapter 42 - Damage
(Mareah)
Just from looking at her from the back, I could see her whole body tense up at the sound of my voice.
Clearing her throat, D’onna walked slowly to the door. “I think I’m just going to leave. Nice seeing you again Mrs.Brown, and uh Tasha, Call me.” And she quickly left out of the house.
Once she left, Tasha started walking towards me. “Mom, I swear it’s not what it sounded like.” It kind of hurt that she was going to lie to me straight to my face like that.
“Are you really going to lie to me?”
“Yeah are you really going to lie to her?” Dylan mocked
“Dylan shut up. You need to go upstairs and talk to your brother, and you” I said pointing to Tasha “Go sit down on the couch so we can talk” I waited until Dylan went upstairs and Tasha sat down before joining her on the couch.
She was never good at hiding things from me, so I wonder how long she’s hidden this from me. I looked her up and down, and everything about her just screamed I’m guilty. Especially the way she was biting the inside of her lip. She does that when she’s nervous. And the way she was tapping her foot in that particular pattern. She taps it in the pattern when she’s lying or when she’s thinking of a lie. I know my daughter to well, which is why I don’t understand how she kept this from me.
Have I not been paying attention to my kids enough? Have I tuned into a bad mother?
“So do you wanna continue to lie to me or do you wanna tell me the truth?”
It took her a mean minute for her to actually make eye contact with me, but when she did, I seen her decision.
Sitting up straight, she cleared her throat. “Okay mom. I’m gay. Me and D’Onna have been dating for about 2 weeks now. And before that, that girl Bianca? Well her real name was Alex and we were dating for a couple of moths. Are you happy now?”
“Actually yes and no.”
“Yes and no?” She asked confusingly
(Tasha)
“I’m happy that you finally admitted it, but I’m disappointed that you took that long to tell me. I know I’m your mother but I also thought you saw me as a friend. A best friend actually. It just hurts that you don’t see me that way anymore. But I guess my little girl is growing up huh?”
I was taken back by the way she acted about this. She was right, I used to see her as a best friend, I just thought that she would be more up on her motherly status when I told her I was gay.
“Yeah, I guess I am” I replied
“Well then…” Standing up from the couch she fixed her pants. “Do you want me to tell your father or should I?”
“Uh, I was planning on telling you guys at the same time, but since you know already you can tell him.”
“Well I’m going to bed. Good night Natasha.”
Natasha? No Sweetie?
“Good night mom. Love you.”
“Mhm.”
She didn’t even say it back…
(Dylan)
When I went into my room, I came in to see Nathan walking his shit into Mj’s room.
“What are you doing?”
He didn’t answer me he just continued to move his shit into Mj’s room.
“Look, I know you’re mad at me, but you don’t have to move ya stuff out.”
“Are you going to be mad at me forever?” I continued when he didn’t say anything.
“So I’m going to just take that as a yes” I whispered to myself
(Chris)
“Your daughter is a lesbian.”
Sprite came flying out of my mouth when I heard Mareah tell me that.
“Excuse me what?”
“Yeah you heard me buddy boy. She just told me, well actually I just caught her and she had no choice but to tell the truth.”
“What do you mean by caught her? Caught her doing what?”
“Her and Dylan were arguing over D’onna.”
D’onna? My D’onna? Not possible.
“Your bosses daughter D’onna?”
“Yes. And Dylan and Nathan are arguing over something. I don’t know what it is, but I just know that Nathan is moving out of the boys room and in with Mj.”
What? When we had the extra bedrooms, you couldn’t those two to separate, now he’s moving into Mj’s room? Something serious must’ve happened.
“Yeah, your kids are irking my nerves. And if you wonder why I don’t want anymore kids. This is why.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“Nothing.”
“No, it’s not nothing. If you got something to say, spit it out Mareah.”
“I just—- I just don’t have the patience anymore. I really don’t. Listen I’m going to bed. Good night Christopher.”
She hung up the phone before I even had the chance to say anything back.
In the middle of the night Michael Jackson’s ‘butterflies’ starting playing from my phone, indicating that Mareah sent me a message. I was kind of skeptical about reading it, since she snapped earlier, but I decided to answer it anyways.
Mareah: I’m so sorry about earlier. Idk what’s the matter with me, but just to let you know I do love you and the kids with all my heart and I would be honored to have another kid by you. Good night Brownie.
By the way she acting, it seems like she’s already pregnant, with these damn mood swings. Still love that crazy chick though.
